The selected candidate will be able to invest years of experience into a future of excellence as an Engineer, providing engineering support for Military Avionics programs.Process Engineers are involved in all phases of products lifecycle repair starting with delivery and support of delivered hardware, lifecycle analysis, process improvements, studies, design & development and fabrication/procurement. The successful candidate will have responsibility for the oversight of various mechanical components of LRUs while ensuring mechanical, electrical, and overall system requirements are met. In addition the selected candidate will be responsible for detailed design tasks that involve creating and reviewing engineering drawings, providing feedback to the team and submitting drawings into a formal review and release process. Candidate will support hardware fabrication, assembly and testing of system development and production needs. Other duties may also include subcontract technical management, leading mechanical teams and presenting technical reviews.The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter, organized, independently directed with good problem solving skills, able to perform effectively despite concurrent work tasks and will possess strong communication, leadership, and team skills.Responsibilities:Performs process improvement initiatives, such as Six Sigma, to improve product deliveryAnalyzes mechanical capabilities to resolve problems and output requirementsPrepares technical data packages and technical documentationSimulates and tests hardware-software program interfacePerforms data analysisResearches and collaborates with the teams locally and broadly with mechanical-avionic testing and analysisThermal analysis, design and testing of one or more moderately complex or portions of complex materials, structural components and functional systems of company products. Analyzing requirements for materials, structural component or functional systems. Selecting applicable analytical data from previous products and determine the technical principles involved. Mathematically defining problems and compute the engineering characteristics consistent with the specifications, design needs and requirements of other portions of the products.Developing and releasing results of analysis as technical documents after review by the senior leadership of the team.Developing innovative solutions and elaborating on design concepts. Evaluating completed designs with supervisor and other technical groups, and making modifications necessary to achieve the most ideal design. Developing, coordinating, and conducting test programs required to evaluate design work.This position can be hired at either Principal or Senior Principal level.Qualifications:Basic Qualifications for Principal Mechanical Engineer: Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) with 5+ years of relevant experience, a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) with 3+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD Must possess OR be able to obtain a valid U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance (or higher). Must be able to work on-site at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia 5+ years of experience in mechanical and/or electromechanical design A solid understanding in ASME Y14.100-2013, Engineering Drawing Practices & ASME Y14.5-2009, Geometric Dimensioning & tolerancing Mechanical design skills that include: tolerance stack-up and mass properties analysis experience A working knowledge of CAD applications and strong CAD foundation Ability to produce design solutions, drawings and trade studies Proficient with computers and computer systems Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) with 9+ years of relevant experience, a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) with 7+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD with 4 years of relevant experienceMust possess OR be able to obtain a valid U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance (or higher). Must be able to work on-site at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia9+ years of experience in mechanical and/or electromechanical design A solid understanding in ASME Y14.100-2013, Engineering Drawing Practices & ASME Y14.5-2009, Geometric Dimensioning & tolerancing Mechanical design skills that include: tolerance stack-up and mass properties analysis experience A working knowledge of CAD applications and strong CAD foundation Ability to produce design solutions, drawings and trade studies Proficient with computers and computer systemsPreferred Qualifications:Strong background in general avionics, repair and lean Experience with LAIRCM, DIRCMActive DoD Secret security clearanceBackground in DMSS (Diminishing Manufacturing Sources of Supply) issue resolution and component evaluations to a specific set of requirements as a means to resolve obsolesce.Position requires familiarization with DLA (Defense Logistics Agency) Engineering Support requests fulfilled via DLA Form 339 and familiarization with TDP (Technical Data Package) and (TO) Technical Order change documentation.Experience with electro and opto-mechanical designsExperience in military electronics packaging designExperience and proficiency with CAD – SolidWorks, AutoCADExperience and proficiency with FEA – ANSYSA working knowledge of TeamCenter Unified Northrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
