Laboratory Technician Trainee

This is a Full-time position in Atlanta, GA posted April 8, 2021.

n TITLE: Laboratory Technician Trainee TYPE: Contract (6 months with the possibility of being extended or going full-time) LOCATION: Atlanta, GA START DATE: Immediate Our client located near Atlanta, GA has an immediate opening for a Laboratory Technician Trainee.

Within 6-24 months, this person will have the opportunity to be promoted into a full Lab Tech position with the same company.

The trainee role is around 45% customer service, 45% administrative support, and 10% working with the lab techs while they train you how to do their job.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, Forensics, etc.

and only has limited non-academic experience with Biology techniques such as PCR.

This is also an excellent role for someone who is going to start grad school in the next 1-3 years and needs to gain some experience in the field before starting school again.

You will be trained on how to perform the additional tasks of the role.

Main Responsibilities:Customer Service (~45%): Be the first point of contact with customers when they enter the lab.

Greet customers in a friendly and positive way, provide instructions, help with any paperwork or pre-appointment checks that need to be performed.

Follow all HIPPA guidelines and keep all healthcare information/lab results confidential.

Schedule appointments with patients over the phone and make sure that the appointment is updated correctly in the LIMS system.

Administrative Support(~45%): Enter data into the LIMS system.

Review PCR test results and input the correct information into the LIMS system.

Run various reports out of the database to be presented both internally and externally.

Help ensure that the lab is running smoothly.

Laboratory Training (~5-10%): Working in a CLIA/CAP certified, high complexity/high throughput Biology lab, you will be able to observe and shadow the lab techs performing the entire qPCR process from start to finish.

Once you have enough knowledge, you will be able to run part of the qPCR process with the help of a lab tech.

Eventually, you will have an opportunity to be promoted into a Lab Tech role, when a position becomes available.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Forensics, Genetics or a similar field.

Those with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or Physics are probably not going to be a fit for this position.

Academic experience with Western Blotting, Gel Electrophoresis, PCR/qPCR/RT-PCR, DNA/RNA extraction BUT less than a year of real-world experience Personable demeanor, friendly personality, and the ability to perform a high level of customer service.

Experience working with the general public in a restaurant, retail, or other public setting is a BIG plus.

Must have reliable transportation, driver’s license, valid insurance, clean driving record.

Must be flexible with regards to local travel and shift.

Must be reliable, dependable and trustworthy.
