(sm)This is a key technical role within the Optum IQ Studio product engineering team bridging enablement of Optum-scale analytic enrichment and with transformation towards AI/ML predictive modeling.

The role requires classic ML Engineering skills including full-stack DevOps engineering, Data Science, and the ML Engineering skills to blend those disciplines into coherent solutions.

We are looking for a strong software engineer who is collaborative, a self-starter, can take ownership / accountability and drive results.

This role will involve working with distributed, global teams and engaging with a wide range of technical and business leaders.

This person needs to be comfortable dealing with complexity and ambiguity.If you are located in Utah, you will have the flexibility to telecommute* as you take on some tough challenges.Primary Responsibilities: Provide leadership for an agile engineering team responsible for building and supporting Public Cloud-based tools and services supporting AI and machine learning model development, Model Ops, and Data Ops Drive delivery on a roadmap that helps transform Optums analytic capabilities by combining access to the right tools and scalable computing with Optums healthcare expertise and industry leading data assets Work directly with Analytics/Data Science, Engineering, and Business leaders to identify and support AI platform and transformation opportunities Partner with analytics, engineering, and business leaders to tool and refine best practices for driving analytic model quality, sustainability, and reliability Support the software delivery teams ability to rapidly deliver high-value, quality software through the use of automation and everything-as-code best practices Ensure application stability with dev-ops best practices for rapid problem triage and resolution.

Continuously grow the maturity of the teams agile and engineering practices to improve time, quality, and value to market Stay abreast of leading-edge technologies in the industry, evaluating emerging software technologies and evangelizing their adoptionYoull be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications: BS / BA in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience 7+ years of professional engineering experience, with steadily increasing responsibilities 5+ years of experience leading teams in an agile commercial software environment 5+ years of experience designing and building highly distributed, scalable systems 3+ year experience delivering software and services Public and/or Private Cloud platforms Experience delivering software utilizing machine learning algorithms and advanced analytics Experience planning and supporting high availability for critical production services, preferably in a cloud environment Experience leading development using modern software engineering practices such as Agile, Continuous Integration/Delivery, and DevOps Experience with software automation including test, deployment, operations automation Demonstrated ability to apply process, architecture and software engineering principles, methods and tools to solve complex business challenges Exceptional communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization including senior technology and business leaders Results-oriented individual with strong coaching, decision making, influencing, mentoring, negotiation, problem solving and situational analysis skills Experience working with globally distributed teams (partners and customers) If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener.
